Flower update – week 13
After a beautiful Sunny Saturday we got a very rainy and stormy Easter Weekend. The people who have attend the periscope broadcasting know this already … the tulips in the Willem Alexander Pavilion are in bloom! And throughout the park there are lots of crocus, hyacinths and daffodils in bloom. It is a lovely sight walking around the garden. Especially when it is sunny and dry.
The Oranje Nassau pavilion is filled with the most beautiful tulips as well. And you can vote for your favorite tulip! Looking forward to see these results! And the Beatrix Pavilion has a dazzling amount of the most beautiful orchids. I definitely need to photograph these flowers.
Outside the Keukenhof the fields are getting more into bloom. The first hyacinth fields in bloom are spotted and even a very early tulip field is in bloom. So when you are in Keukenhof make sure to rent a bike and bike around!
What to expect for next week
Keukenhof will have a Dutch themed weekend from 1-3 April. With cheese market, Dutch dancing, Dutch food (try the Stroopwafels or Poffertjes if you can) etc. You can find lots of these activities in the windmill area of Keukenhof. And when you are there make sure you visit the Holland themed garden in the Inspirational area. It is one of my favorite gardens this year with lots of Delfts Blue.
About the blooming for next week: I expect to see more Hyacinths fields in bloom. These are so colorful and the fragrance is delicious. Aside from the early tulips I don’t expect to see more general tulip fields in bloom yet. Every day you can see more daffodil fields in bloom. Make sure you have a window seat when you arrive by plan and watch the area between your plane and the seaside. When you have clear visibility you should be able to see the fields from the air.
When I look at the weather forecasts it will be a typical spring week with some rain showers and sunshine. The temperature is forecasted above the 10 degrees C (50 F) but you might want to bring a windbreaker jacket (and dress in layers) when you are visiting from a warmer climate. I am still bringing my scarf and knitted hat when I am walking outside.
